Wheeler Dam Muscles Shoals at Tennessee River Bridge Alabama
This vintage postcard from 1960’s, shows Wheeler Dam located on Tennessee river, just 15 miles from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Wheeler Dam is named after US Civil War General and Congressman, Joseph Wheeler who was one of the earliest advocates of federal support of Muscle Shoals area.
Wheeler Dam was formed in 1930’s as part of New Deal initiatives designed to improve infrastructure and reduce unemployment at a cost of $46 million. Construction started in 1933 and the dam was opened in 1936. It’s one of the most iconic dams created during Great Depression and offers a sight to behold.
This postcard commemorates Wheeler Dam and has a picture of the dam along with its reservoir on it. Front side mentions some useful information about Wheeler Dam and is almost half a century old as the stamp on this postcard mentions a date 0f 24 Jan 1961.
It is a rare one as few other Wheeler Dam postcards have been ever sold and will be a good addition to your existing vintage postcard collection.
