Needles Lighthouse Isle Wight England
This vintage postcard features a beautiful picturesque image of Needles Lighthouse which is located on Isle of Wight in English Channel, just 2 miles off the coast of Hampshire and is separated from mainland England by Solent.
Needles Lighthouse was finished in 1859 and was constructed for Trinity House at a cost of £20,000, which was a huge sum in mid-19th century. It was designed by the famed James Walker, who also served as the consulting engineer for Big Ben, and the Palace of Westminster.
Needles Lighthouse has a height of 31m and is among the oldest lighthouses in England which have been in continuous operation since 19th century. It was fully automated in 1994, when it’s 3-member crew left permanently and also boasts several helipads.
