Interior Fort Cannon Washington County Maryland
This vintage postcard depicts a cannon pointed through a breach in the south wall of Old Fort Frederick, Washington County, Maryland. Fort Frederick is today part of Fort Frederick State Park, a public recreation and historic preservation area on the Potomac River.
Fort Frederick played an important role in the evolution of modern United States as it was used during the French and Indian War (1954-1763), American Revolutionary War (1775-1783), and the American Civil War (1861-1865). This cannon was placed at the breach to protect the fort from any outside invasion and was transported by B&O Railroad.
Barracks used by soldiers during American Civil War can also be seen in the background. It’s one of the few postcards which depict a weapon used in American Civil War and is much sought after by postcard collectors. Buy it today and enhance the value of your existing postcard collection.
