During 1920’s and 1930’s, it was visited by luminaries from all walks of life such as Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill, Calvin Coolidge, and Franklin Roosevelt. It was built in almost 28 years and was still unfinished when William Randolph Hearst left this remote location in 1947 due to his poor health.
